What if The ‘Other’ Candidate Wins The Elections?

‎”… whether you held an Obama sign or a Romney sign, you made your voice heard and you made a difference.”

May we hear our own leaders say the same and encourage us to remain united, no matter who God lifts as leader after our own choosing. May we never be victimized for choosing based on our convictions and love for our nations. May God hear this cry of our hearts. Thank you America for another good lesson. God’s Blessings to you.

I happened to catch up on a sermon last Sunday, on the radio, from CITAM Ministries, Valley Road Nairobi. I share it here because I believe it is a key to peace. Individual and National and International.

The preacher, who I have since learned is their Bishop David Oginde, was saying that although each person may have a favorite candidate or set of candidates that they would prefer to win, especially the Presidency, it was imperative that we open our hearts to the other candidates that were running for that same position. Especially where we had very strong feelings of dislike or hostility towards another candidate, usually the one seen as the greatest rival to ‘yours’. He mentioned that many had, before the last elections indicated that if the ‘other candidate’ won, they would simply just die. Some actually fell sick. Some just may.

He said it was time we allowed God’s Spirit to work into us a new mentality. We needed to face the fact that ‘the other’ candidate stood similar chances as yours in winning. We needed to open ourselves to the reality, that they just may. If they did, we would have to live under their leadership so he advised that we begin to pray for them and allow God to teach us to love them, even when thought of it was traumatizing. If they did win, no matter what we felt about them, they would become our President for the period which our constitution mandates them to be. He asked that we don’t base our joy, peace of mind, patriotism on ‘our candidates’ victory and seek ‘to die’ if that other candidate wins; but that we should do our parts as God’s people, and basically receive the outcome from Him as a gift to us. The winner no longer becomes ‘their‘ President, Senator, MP, Councilor etc, but mine too by virtue of my being a citizen of my country: The country in which they serve. Seek wisdom, seek peace, seek God’s Will and embrace it when He gives it.

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.
Romans 13

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 2

Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good…
Titus 3:1

Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority...”
1 Peter2
